HSES Orffestra

The HSES Orffestra Club is offered to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students as an after-school club each Spring. Students who are in Orffestra Club will meet in the music room at 2:30 each Tuesday after school. They will rehearse from 2:45 - 3:30 and then students will meet their parents in the car-rider line at the front of the school. They will have several chances throughout the semester to perform at various school functions and in the community. Please check back soon for information about our upcoming session.

Orffestra is an instrument ensemble that uses mallet instruments such as the xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. The name, ORFF-estra, was chosen because the instruments were designed by the German musician and teacher, Carl Orff. The students in the Orffestra will work to improve their mallet skills as well as their note and rhythm reading skills. They will work together each week to create "orffestrations" that are challenging, fun, and exciting to play!

  1. The glockenspiels on crates is such a good idea. Did you buy the crates or get them donated?

    1. Thank you! I actually bought these from the Dollar Tree several years ago but haven't been able to find them since. :( I like this style because you can put mallets and extra bars inside the box for easy transport. I also put a little Velcro strip on the instrument and crate so that everything stays secure. That way you can remove them if you need to.
