Meet the Teacher

My name is Clare Eggleston and I am so excited to be teaching music to your children again this year at High Shoals Elementary. I graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Music K-12 certification. I also hold my certification in Orff-Schulwerk Level 1 and am a member of Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). This is my 15th year teaching music and I have also taught in Rock Hill, SC and in Jackson County, GA. My husband, Travis, and I live in Athens with our eight year-old daughter named Maggie and three year-old son named Reece.

From a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I, like many other future teachers, lined up my dolls and barbies and taught them "school" when I was a little girl. I even tried to teach my baby sister when she would let me. I have always enjoyed teaching children in various capacities - from working at Vacation Bible School to an Afterschool program. I come from a very musical family and played the piano and cello and was a vocal major in college. This musical background and love for children inspired me to become a music teacher! I love teaching music and I truly enjoy teaching the wonderful students of High Shoals each day!

  1. Hi, Clare! I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you what a great job you have done with this blog! You are obviously very passionate about what you do!

We've recently launched a subscription-based website called The Singing Classroom! The site features songs, games, videos and animations, all to help elementary music teachers with their curriculum!

We, too, have a blog that is dedicated to publicizing music education . conferences, trainings, and events around the world. We also are looking to have music teachers write guest posts on relevant hot topics for music teachers. Would you be interested in writing a guest post sometime? In exchange for this post, Deborah would be happy to return the favor and write a guest post on your blog, if you'd like!:)

    Have a great summer!

  3. Hi there,

I just came across your blog via Pinterest and I am IN LOVE! I am a first-year Elementary General teacher (who focused in orchestra during college) and was wondering if I could pick your brain on a few things.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi Clare,

I absolutely love your blog!! In your classroom blog 'Welcome to the Music Room' you have a wonderful display of Musical Words and I am to recreate it in my own classroom (I work at an American International School in Singapore), are you able to share where you found the patterns or did you create it yourself? Any information would be much appreciated!!

  5. I just came across your blog for the first time while surfing Pinterest! I Love what you do! I have taught in many states for 22+ years (including Fulton Co Georgia) and do big musicals much like you do! Please tell me what you do to get such wonderful scenery and costumes. Is that all parents? Or do you get the children involved?

    1. Hi Jennifer! I have been very lucky to have art teachers in my building who are so helpful when it comes to the backgrounds and scenery. The parents make their child's own costumes. I usually send home a idea sheet to get them started and encourage them to look at Google Image and Pinterest. I really love to see the awesome things they come up with! There are usually a handful of students who don't end up wearing a costume so I have a few prepared. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks so much for reading! :)
